Hi all . Going to have my prostate removed in a couple of weeks, had the checks done and there quite sure the cancer is only in the prostate , so I've chosen to have it removed by robotic machine. Only one night in hospital. Surgeon said no work for 3 months. Has any of you old boys had it done , cheers .

Not had it done but thinking of having the blood test. My old man died cause of prostate that had metastasized by time nhs picked it up after ages thinking it was hip replacement pain and lots of tests that missed it till a physio guy told him go to a different hospital to get checked out, but to late by then .

My father died with it . The problem is when you ask the doctor about getting tested ,they ask you if you have any symptoms and if you haven't they may talk you out of it. They want you to take a booklet away and read it . Before they book you in . They told me before that if the test comes back positive. The examinations that follows is not very pleasant. Etc. so I think some men leave it .

very sorry to hear this mixerman, all the best, hope operation goes well,

sparky i work with went for tests 4 months go, never heard anything back at all, so he assumed everything was okay, doctor phoned him up 3 months later to tell him he had prostate cancer, fortunately they have just caught it in time, still recovering/having more tests etc, keep in touch with them mixerman, dont wait for them to get in touch,

I met a customer recently who is involved with a cancer charity ,they have events and you can pay to have a PSA test there . He reckons all men over 40 should have a test every year. I think its £17 ish . You need the blood test ,and the digit up the rear end to check it's smooth.

Now you've said that last bit, there'll be a queue forming from some on here.

Met bloke this week (ex copper) he said he’d just been diagnosed with this same issue. tbh I didn’t know what to say. But I wish I said “very good success rate with this issue you’ll be fine lad”

Got mine checked last year, might have saved my life. finger up the bum was real quick, normal age related Doc said, but blood test to be sure - Came back, PSA fine but high blood fats, straight onto Statins, apparently arteries probably fatty build up, no cure, just holding off getting worse & have changed diet drastically. Weight came off but has been coming back.
