Hi.

I want my living room skimmed and am trying to make it easy as possible for the plasterer (when I can get one to come round!)

The room is completly empty and no coving / architrave / skirting and all electrical points are not connected wit the wires curled up in the boxes.

My questions are

Can i fill the electrical chases with bonding plaster flush with the existing plaster as its all going to be skimmed or should I still leave a couple of mm spare?

I am going to fill in a few of the joins in the plasterboard and put scrim tape over all the joins have i also got to tape the screws?

No mate you don't scrim screw heads what you're doings spot on fair play fill the chases flush don't worry if it's a bit nibbly you can nock them off when it's dry

Personally I would prefer to do the chases myself. You've done all you can by emptying the room. Taking off sockets, skirting etc. Let him do the rest.

Welcome to the forum Iggle Piggle, how's Makka doing? & have you got off with Upsy Daisy yet mate?

leave it to the plasterer then theres no excuses in 3 months when the chases havent dried out coz you should of used sand and cement :)

there is nothing worse than other people taping beading and bonding out for you. you spend more time sorting i out after than you would have done doing it yourself

Ive done jobs for people who have prepped the room there self and had no problems but what you gotta realise is a spread wont charge you less for his time just because you prepped it yourself.

Yeh i always tell the customer it wont save you any money if you tape up for me and some even say they will stick the beads on LOL

Thanks for all the replies.

My original plan was to just make good the chases which I have done on one wall but the rest of the wall is pretty bad so thought we may just as well get the whole room skimmed.

Its not really about saving money I have got a bag of bonding and some pva left which I thought i'd use up.
I'm not too bad filling chases (I'm a electrician so you can really start to abuse me now!)

I don't expect to save any money as he would be here the same ammount of days anyway and get what you pay for.

went to price one the other week, his 'diy mate had done all the boarding, ceilings and partitions,he is really good'.
erm,no he is'nt,every joint was filled with bonding,cos they were that wide,flapping ends,not on a joist:RpS_scared:ect.
on on ceiling they wanted to keep the cornice,so boarded up to the top profile and said"the plasterer will sort it",the board was left flapping, nothing to screw the board to. needless to say,i priced it way over, dident want the job.
her words were "is that for all the house craig"
me "no love, just the rooms the muppet has boarded":RpS_biggrin:
filling chases is a piece of piss though, any old chap could do it,even electricians
:RpS_lol::RpS_thumbup:

In that case, fill the chases yourself. Then you'll realise why we moan when you leave the cappings proud!!
