Hi anyone know best place to get one of those performer arches from and also is this the best way to go for putting an arch in where a door used to be?

any merchants should be able to get them, possible b and q or wickes aswell. personally i dont use them as i think they are s**t. much better forming it with board if its internal

Are you taking the caseing out and putting the arch in the opening. The kits you get from bq are ok but they have there problems in fitting.

Them arch kits are ok if the blockwork/brickwork is a clean cut, personally you are better off using plasterboard and you can form any arch you like.

Mate building an arch requires nothing more than common sense.
But,personally i would just buy one becuse i can fix a arch kit in 10 mins and it takes 2 hrs to build one from scratch. So i could have the arch up skimmed along with 2-3 other walls in the time id built one from scratch so its a no brainer for me.

jason i can build an arch from board in about 30minutes. to whatever size and shape you wanted. and i could skim mine straight away, no waiting round for bonding or hardwall to set

30 mins is if its on a stud :RpS_sneaky:

brick wall you are talking an hour, still quicker than setting up an arch kit, bonding it out then waiting for it to set.

on stud its simple 30 mins is easy possible.cut your arch shape out of board x2.put some slate batten or similar on head of opening front and back and same down side .on sdes leave slightly shorter than board this makes it easier to blend later, now screw your 2 boards on put some noggins around the shape and screw bottom board on , bead and skim

I dont think you could do it in an hour pal ive done loads over the years before the kits come out and never in an hour. It takes 20 mins to bead the fuc k er s and thats on a good day.

kits have been about since I started work in 84.
i agree with everything beddy's said.

WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thats exactly how i do it.

piece of piss this way. and like i said you can do any size and shape you want. no ******* about cutting arches down to size or putting extra bits in. n waiting for bonding to set.

the only thing i would add is the underside bit of board should be cut on the back every 20-40mm or so depending on the sharpness of the curve

I do them the same way, but rather than cutting the back of the board to bend, i cut a strip of board a few mm wider than i need, stand it against the wall and run a wet brush up the face, do this a few times whilst constructing my stud work and it will bend under its own weight. Screw it to my noggins then surform back flush, bead up and Skim.

AB

depends on how severe the shape is 6mm plaster board works great. or damp down your cut underneath piece and lean on a wall it will form easy then do that before doing arch and it will be perfect when your ready for it
