isnt it actually illegal to post porn adverts on sites totally unrelated??
just wondered cos there seems to be an influx of it lately, and although its computer generated the 'member' seems to stay online for quite a while...
anyway, surely its illegal right? in which case surely the 'authorities' have the authority to track the offending site/host/whatever and shut em down??

Depends mate.
Actually hacking the site might breach Data Protection Act but it's difficult to prove.
To trace someone you have to find the IP address, locate what server its on, who owns the server (and bear in mind the yahoo server for instance is in Afghanistan!) You then have to get Court orders to make the company reveal addresses then get a warrant and seize PCs from the address. It's also complicated by the fact that the people doing it prolly ain't in the UK. Then you got the CPS (Can't Prosecute s**t) unless it was a Thursday in February and all the lights except one were on in London they'd never prosecute anyway.
That's why it only tends to be done for child porn etc. If the porn is legal stuff they won't bother just cos someone might have breached Data proection.
Strictly speaking it's no different to the spam posts we get on here for debt etc.
We can block IP addresses but they can be changed or disguised.
Easiest thing is to have two fantastic moderators who are on the ball and get rid ASAP ;D
