Does anyone have experience, recommendations on plastering on Kingspan TR27 insulation board, internal insulation. This is the glass fiber faced board. Kingspan just say to use something like glass fiber mesh with whatever is being used. Not a lot of help. Considering bonding coat with the mesh then finish.

Has it got foil both sides? Why is there no plasterboard over the top of it mate or is this a new system or something?

No foil either side, the insulation board has a glass fiber face both sides. One side bonded to wall with expanded urethane foam to eliminate any air gap (can explain reasoning behind that if wanted, but gets sort of long). No plasterboard, the glass fiber backing mat is bonded to the insulation much better than plasterboard normally is. The board was recommended by one of the technical guys at Kingspan as the best way to go for direct rendering / plastering on, but another of their technical guys didn't know what internal plaster to use. Since it is low suction I think standard bonding should do. Just wondering if anyone else has used anything like it. Celotex make a similar board.

Yes, new.

"Kingspan Thermaroof® TR27 LPC/FM is designed for use beneath mechanically fixed or fully adhered single-ply non-bituminous roofing systems."

Is it being used on walls? Its just a roofing board isn't it?

If you have to plaster it would you not just skim it?

Yes its a roofing board, takes adhesives very and doesn't delaminate which is why it was used. Probably could just skim, but the walls it went on were not exactly straight so seem better to use bonding coat in some way to even out (10 to 12mm) before skimming.

With all the emphasis on insulating walls seemed like a good time to experiment. Theoretically seems a better way to do this than using battens.

Sounds like a job for MP75, interesting material if it can be sucsesfully plastered over the plasterboard makers wont like it.

So they either ain't sure or some of them need to brought up to speed on this, see if you can get written confirmation of it's suitability first off mate :RpS_thumbup:

Odd spec..but maybe if its fairly flat and straight ,Thistle Bondit, then skim and as Warrior says a 100mm strip of standard gauge mesh over joints.

Had a look at it today it does have some sort of coating but with no gypsum if that makes any sense

Drat, Spunky, I should have given you some off cuts of the TR27 and you could have tried a little experiment putting bonding on it to see how well it stuck.

You might just find that the Thistle Durafinish that Spunky asked about earlier would be ideal for this as it has better adhesion than standard finish plasters.

The plasterer ended up PVAing, then bonding before finish. Tried just bonding on the boards and stuck, but not as solid as with the PVA. Yes, taped joints

The bonding took longer than normal to set so something to watch out for if doing this. SBR could be a better bet than PVA.
