Hi there,

I have recently purchased an old terrace.
I have ripped out the old lath plaster Ceilings in the two bedrooms, as they was very badly cracked/ really loose, and wouldn’t have supported it being boarded over.

I am going to be to boarding a couple of bedroom ceilings For them to be skimmed.

Is 1 layer of normal standard12.5mm gypsum plasterboard enough to comply with building regulations for ceilings. Or do I have to double board It using the pink fire board.

Thanks for your help.
kind regards

One 12.5mm plasterboard meets the minimum requirements, I can't remember if it's 30 mins or an hour. The fire boards are a big increase and probably worth using if you don't mind spending the extra dosh.

Top floor Bedroom ceilings, ie just the attic and roof above, are not part of the fire compartment unlike the walls. 30mins is fine. If there is another room above then that changes, and if it is going to be a rental in multiple occupation you'd better check the local authority planning and building control
