A month ago I coated a ceiling and a sloping wall with 4:1 water/PVA. Next day I skimmed (multifinish) the ceiling and wall, then did a 2nd coat on the ceiling (ran out of time for the wall). The whole thing dried out and the ceiling came out okay.
Today I applied the 4:1 water/PVA to the wall that had only one coat of skim, think that I would apply another 2 coats and finish fhe job. But an hour later after the PVA water the dry skim started falling off. About a 1/4 of the wall has come off. The skim was only about 1-2mm thick (I know should have been 4mm). The wall before I started was painted skim on plasterboard.
Was has this happened ?
Was the skim too think and so reacted to the PVA water ?
What can I do now - I thought of hacking off loose bits and trying stronger PVA mix, and applying coats when tacky…..?
Any help would be appreciated !
