Hi all, thinking of getting a carbon steel trowel, When i patina it when it’s gone black do I wash the black off or leave it on, thanks

it's your trowel, do what you want it ,will not affect your plastering if your trowel is shiny or has a black film.

I got 3 as for skimming , one is still dead straight , another got a bit more abuse , I thought if you don't abuse they stay straight , never put them in tool bucket ,

Lol wickes , dropped my off scarf and toe shattered , big wet wall on and wickes around the corner , special offer about £4 ( weren't selling cos painted black) got 3 as throw away and they were that good I've stuck with em , got my for floating and its as bent as fk

Ok , smoke screen ! Get a mt carbon 14" and a nela flex 16" .And a selection of decent spats (nela) and a sponge , wickes £ 7.00 . Good luck .,

Got use to 18" less tools the better for me , got a speedskim and chopped it up for gaps around door architraves lol , will get something for site , I've been on overskims , I'll probably change tack when just on boards

Have you agreed the deal, on site, whats the m2 price and for what ?

Leave it on


I.ve sacked bi carb of now and just stick mine in rola cola and vinegar.

Drain it off and pat dry, don't rub it too hard. @hicky used to recommend cleaning off after creating a patina.
