Ive just knocked down a built in wardrobe in my sons room , this has left the bare boarded ceiling area (3 inch wide and 6 foot long) with old scrim hanging (that horrible string type stuff).

Whats the best way to blend in the area i need to skim? Seems one side is pretty thick and one not so :(.

probably easier to dress it up with something rather then patch it of your not %100 confident, not sure what with mind.... piece of timber or something!!??

If i wanted to dress it id have left the wood in there ;) .

I need to skim it , thinking about cutting serrated edge into existing plaster and blending into it, anyone else got any tips?

Are you confident doing the job ???? if your not then it will look awful .

If you are confident then scrape back any high spots, Scrim and joints showing, PVA the boards and about 6-8 inchs of the existing plastered ceiling, Mix up enough multi to just cover the board and to bring out to the existing plaster trowel a few times until firm, mix up some more multi but this time lay a few inchs onto the existing ceiling and feather it in. when I am doing this after the first few trowels i use a sponge to sponge in the wet edge.

Do this properly you will never see the joint.

Dont do it properly you'll regret it

Cheers Richard thats just what I needed to know, Im fairly confident but I can always skim the whole ceiling if its goes breasts up :).

Ill post results good or bad ..
