Hi all,

I'm after some advice please. I am newbi so go easy on me...

I am doing 2 small living room walls altogether 10m/2.

The customer wants to paint straight over the plaster the next day. I have told him he should ideally wait about 4 weeks.

He went down B&Q and they have told him to PVA over new plaster then paint over that.

I was under the impression he would have to use a breathable paint.

So could someone please point me in the right direction in what to advise him to do?

Thanks

Paint over them with a breathable paint. You can paint over them once they turned dark brown.usually 3-4 hrs.but this time of year there fully dry in 24 hrs anyhow so might as well wait.
Paint must not have any vinyl in it !!!!!! just matt emulsion, watered down first coat is best practie too but really needed with these modern paints.

You can paint it as soon as it sets.

I have done it twice includeing my living room here, its not a problem at all.

pva - poly VINYL chloride - operative word being VINYL...
B+Q bloke just f'cked your job right up mate.... go back, ask to see the manager and get yourself some free 'breathable' paint...
never pva new plaster, use a mist coat of matt paint followed by 2 coats of same (matt is breathable i.e. porous)..
if you wanna use silk let it dry completely (day or so for a skim, week or so for render+skim etc)....

but you can (as already stated) paint it when its dark (not fully dry) provided what ever you cover it with doesnt stop it drying out like pva or silk (vinyl silk) will do...

Tell him if he wanted it painted quickly, you could have tried to put the paint in to the mix ??? I think that should work ;D
