Got an Nvq 2 but thinking about doing the NVQ 3, Is it worth doing and what does it involve?

I didn't do level 2 so don't know what that required but for level 3 you need to be able to provide evidence that you can do "complex external rendering", "complex internal plastering" and also have interacted with foremen and clients and bla bla bla.

Level 3 will get you the gold CSCS card but if that's not important to you it's only really worth doing for personal satisfaction.

in the north east at ashington college it is £450 for level 3 nvq you need it to teach if you want to go down that route in later life when all your joints are knackered

Always handy to have if you are looking at getting in to management side of things and if you want to get into teaching it means you can deliver at level which is always better for colleges. TBH I dont know anybody who regrets getting quals but I know a lot who regret not getting any.

I did the level 3. Involved complex render patterns. I had to plaster a concave and a convex curve and pebble dash. Piece of pish mate. I was that unimpressed because the guy said thats the best ive ever seen etc. It was bulls**t.
Im not that good or experienced with render, I didnt even send off for the card as I felt it meant nothing. Rather be honest. But at the end of the day Ive got it for what its worth. Also involved answering questions on screeds and stuff like that but he gave me a booklet to read first.
Qualifications at the end of the day are important and the more the better but I didnt send off for the card coz it was £25 that I dont need to fork out for yet. Got the paper work though.

ok fair enough .............know if you live in the real world you ring someone and ask for work they ask you if you have a cscs card, tell them youve got a gold one if you want ...........now you turn up on site and get inducted by some miserable little 21 year old who thinks youre wasting an hour of his life all the cscsc cards get chucked up the end of the table the chap goes away takes a photo copy and hands them back and everyone gets the wrong one
after this you go do some work and only then do you give an impression to youre employer because it might be 2 weeks before you even see him and by then youre work should have kept you on site

You say a teaching degree can you elaborate cheers.

Aswell as having an nvq3 in your chosen subject you have to have teaching qualifications PTTLS,KTTLS and DTLLS, you also need to be able to assess students for nvq's for this you need the A1 assessor award. You have to have proven teaching experience and have access to students who are studying for nvq to assess, i have spoken to the construction department at local college and arranged to work with them voluntary for this experience.

You can get in to teaching without the Certificate in Education (degree) but you need to get it in the near future or you get kicked out. By the way you don't start at 35K but work up to it, you can start as low as 21K

Either way you still need the degree. If the starting salary is 25k its £500 a week not slogging your guts out, covered in muck, garunteed work and holiday pay all of which i have never had and with 2 new babies i need job security.

When you start the course you need to be teaching, seem to think that its a minimum of 60 hours per year, dont quote me on the figure, so it might pay you to contact a college in your area thats delivering plastering.

its always worth it roofer2plaster whenever i have been offered anything like an nvq etc i have took it did a site safety course last summer everyone thought i was wasting my time the this winter i have been payed daywork for standing around reading magazines because im the only one with the qual's that a particular site needs so the firm i was working for had to pay me just to stand around so that other spreads, labouruors boarders etc could go on site.
