Newbie looking for some advice

Hi

I have a cottage with a small courtyard at the back. The render is coming away in sheets. I have had a couple of quotes to re-render it already but I am troubled........

One of the people I spoke with said that because it is an outside wall with no damp course, and nothing stopping damp from rain / above, that the render will keep failing.

Any thoughts as to whether this is the case or what is to be done to ensure that it does last?

Looks like it's been rendered with building sand 1 coat special by some goon!
