I'm wondering is it the paint traping the damp in which is stopping the bricks and black mortar breath same way that rendering with Portland in a house that is built with lime could cause issues as the lime render needs to breath and the Portland traps it in causing damp ? Maybe paint of and breathable paint
House is over 100 years old not sure what brick but it's black ash lime from what I can read all black ash is lime so must not use Portland on them but I guess its not as bad as using Portland cement on solid wall construction this is not my house but mine has got it so has every house on street even comes threw some of the rendered ones mimes not as bad I want to repoint a bit in same black ash and possibly use a breathable paint I was wondering what's best to treat it with
I did want to render it I hate the bricks but I'm worried it will cause problems. I have noticed k rend do a lime product k lime but I need to work out the cause of it before I do anything
