hello all..newbe here..to the site and to plastering..went to look at a job today where the corner bead is pealing away..its plaster board, then skimed, then this bead looks like its just pushed in the finish..it doesnt meet on the corner/angle..its two bits for both sides, its 12mm wide and really thin...its pulling away from the finish and they want a new bead fitted..has anyone come accross this before, would love some advice..can i get really thin bead.would i have to chase a bit out or should i try n make my own corner???...thanks for any advice...Zach

Is it a wall corner bead or window angle reveal bead to say a bay window etc. If there are two seperate parts to the bead as you're saying then it sounds as if two stop beads have been used - don't know why! Need more info mate. Any pics?

thanks for replies..its an external corner, and instead of an angle bead its like 2 thin strips of metal (12mm wide) either side of the corner..they have been set in the finish and a really thin skim over the top..the metal has blown and come away..hope this makes more sense..im a plumber by trade, but painting in this house..just doing what it takes to get buy..many thanks..Z

Sounds like you have 2 12mm stop beads to form the angle( when only one would really have been needed) by what your saying, but these are used in backing renders and then skimmed to. Sounds like the original plasterer ran out of anglebeads and used the stops instead (not the correct way to form angles) - this is the only reason i can see that these would be used.

Ideally you would have to reskim adjacent walls using thin coat beads, failing that fill/sand and paint for a quick fix/bodge!

thanks for your reply mate...what ever he done is deffinitally a bodge..just been looking at stop beads and its not that..this stuff is flat,no lip/stop on it..if i can find a super thin stop bead i could use that too repair like u said, just on one side...thanks..Z

Your best bet would give BDL a ring. They specialise in this type of work and I'm sure their tech helpline would be gladski to helping. Google them
