My good lady...

...wants to move to the North East. :rayos:
I'm heading up there end of March for a gander, hopefully if the moon's align I can catch up with @Arti for a brew.

Any insight would be interesting, :frenetico:

There is money to be made but, obviously it would take time to build up the contacts \ customer base. Day rates you would be doing well to get £150, there is no shortage of peeps who will work for a £100. If you were coming up cash rich so to speak i would be looking at renovating stuff yourself depending on what other trades you can turn your hand to. Yes there are cheap properties to be had but, you would not want to live in them yourself.
my cousins husband did the land deal for Dalton park retail park which is just on the outskirts of seaham and made over seven figures off it.
plus Seaham can't be that bad it has a 5 star hotel and spa on and probably the best car boot sale in the North East :D

Property is a lot cheaper there and she has a lot of family in the area. No family down here

I'm sure you've discussed it all been told what's going to happen, but wouldn't it be better to move nearer but not on the doorstep? An hour's drive away would be close enough to visit, but far enough away that the in-laws aren't hogging the remote. You'd still get more bang for your buck property wise, but you'd have more work options and a wider choice of places to live.

OK forget that. I've just Googled Seaham Harbour and you're options appear to be the dole, or the dole with cash in hand. Still, clogs are cheaper than work boots so every cloud contains rain. :(

Housewife, can't see it happening to be fair. I've worked too hard to build a business

She would more than likely have to work up here unless you were going to be doing the move totally debt free i.e. Buy up here for cash and money in the bank.
yes there are cheap houses but there's no shortage of million plus houses in the North East either. Barring real family crisis it's more of a retirement \ semi retirement move.

Joking apart, it's a tough one. Maybe a change of career/business?

If you have some change out of the property side of things you could get set up with something that'd be better for those of advancing years than plastering. Burger van, supply & fit blinds, coffee stand, chat line, porn, recreational horticultural products .... there are loads of things that could turn a few bob.

She owned a pub that I used to frequent, lovely little back street locals pub in Torquay. We lost it in the crash '08. Most of the pubs around us went down the pan . We left that life behind and had our two boys Ethan and Dylan (y)
