Just wanting to kno if any of you have used these sites or any similar. Weather you have had much success with them. How many jobs etc
Cheers

Lots of threads on this topic, have a little read through marc. Personally I think location plays a part in the success of these sites. Where are you based bud?

Tried Rated People with a free 30 day trial just after Christmas. I cancelled after three weeks of absolute nonsense. I didn't even use the free £50 credit they provided to purchase leads.

You'll get quite a few leads texted to you. You can then purchase the contact details of any lead that takes your fancy. It's roughly about £20 to £30. That's an average. You then contact the punter and arrange to view the job and give a price. If you can't contact them you can request to have a refund, though this can take a week or more. This happened to me a few times.

I think I purchased about five or six leads. I was only able to contact one of them. The others seemd to have been fabricated. The emails were returned or the telephone numbers rang out or didn't exist. The job I did quote on was for some cretin who wanted a ceiling skimmed. The job description was for " small boxroom ceiling needs skimming" It was actually a large attic room and a formed ceiling . I quoted him quite a bit more than his £100 price only to be told he'd had another offer for £50! I kid you not!

It's a recipe for disaster. Clowns who want something for nothing and Middlemen providing UNVERIFIED and dodgy leads. Think about it. How will feel paying £30 a pop for a few jobs that you don't even know are real and that two ther Rated tradesmen are quoting on. And maybe a few out the Yellow Pages as well..

Don't bother, mate. Your local free paper is your best bet. Mine costs about £30 per week. On a good week you might get four or five calls. On a bad one, none. Thankfully, I've only had to advertise about three times this year.

i joined checkatrade a few months ago and im doing ok with that 3 or 4 calls a week im nearly in your area aswell just down at durham i think from what people are saying they are one of the better ones you dont pay them for leads

Had similar experience with rated people, load of hassle for no quotes.

Hi Marc I'm in Consett in north east and did ok from rated people, think they have a cheek charging for leads but the repeat work you get from some jobs more than compensates, never had any dodgy leads, they were all genuine, if you have an iPad or iPhone the app is a winner, better than receiving annoying texts all the time

Checkatrade :-) I am also working on something as well but it will be a while before its worthwhile :-)

Jurek is right about some idiots thinking you can skim a room for fifty quid, read the job description carefully and their expected budget before buying the leads, also they charge around 48 quid a quarter just for the privelege of being a member, worked for me as I was new to area and had no contacts

Glad it worked for you. Was that just the free trial you're talking about or are you still with them?

I found it really annoying, to be honest. If it was my own money I was playing with it would have been worse. Buying a lead, getting an email or mobile that didn't seem to exist. Always found it strange that they always gave mobile contacts, never a landline. Seemed suspicious to me. Even after you'd bought the contact you didn't get an address. Friend of mine who's a spread kept getting calls from joiners about jobs he hadn't posted. Someone taking the mickey. Some joiner rang him enquiring about his girlfriends backdoor being ripped off it's hinges..The started moaning it had cost him £30. Couldn't believe it was a wind up. None of the leads are verified.
