does it really make much difference just seen a guy on YouTube putting it on with the float you rub up with just wondering if anyone else does it

There are diferent plastic floats for diferent grain size, if you are fussy. Put it on with metal and rub it roughly and finish with the plastic. The metal trowel can't give you better finish than the plastic.

In the summer we use a little stainless steel trowel it doesn't seem to build up on the blade as fast so there is less dragging

that's not what I'm saying Dan I'm on about putting the top coat on with the plastic float I would never rub up with the metal trowel

I've tried the plastic for laying on a small area once, not very good and it broke, stick to the stainless mate and rub with plastic
