Last 2 to jobs iv done been told there were a few marks scags and the odd holow section...dnt were im goin wrong ..never seem to have theys probs before..i usally look around and fill any bad bits i can see by puitting the fat in at the end and leavein it a few mins then trowel one more time.??
reali doin me head in as i like to do a good job every time

is youre trowel bouncing of the edge of the wall when you trowel up angles and then on the next trowel do you work away from the angle?.........hollows etc fill em on the first, second leave the fat over the hollow till next trowel and dont fill anything from there on

to be fair the last 2 time iv been told..was on 2 ceilings.. maybe i should try and make my first coat better ie.. fill any holes on the first coat and not expect the second coat to do all the making good...humm does yea head in when sumit ent rite and ya dnt no y.

always better to try and put your first coat on tidy as if you were one coating second coat flys on i one coat any walls or ceilings under 10 sq most of the old boys i worked with when i started all done that

If you put on a first coat and fill in all the holes and make it flat ,get on it at the right time what can go wrong with the second coat ,isnt it that easy ?

in that case why would you need a second coat?

i think that myself sometimes but its rare not to bother..
i usually find something ive missed anyway..
specailly on ceilings cos i tend not to watch what im doing till 2nd trowel..

To make it a pro job

your right but my point is your first coat is never without holes misses etc its only the 2nd you go for that

i do fill out as i flatten 1st coat tho..
i train new blokes labs etc to get rid of defects at the earliest convenient opportunity..
just means the set gets easier and easier as it progresses, and not leave you sweatin at the end hard trowelling and filling holes with fat..

Same as what segs said, i will flattern and fill my fist coat twice ,this also makes the second coat easyier imo
