Hello everyone and any potential employers.

I hope this message is in the correct part of the forums

My name is James , and I am a 31-year-old aspiring plasterer passionate about honing my craft. Having recently completed an 8-week plastering course (601/0521/5), I am now pursuing an NVQ Level 2 qualification while gaining hands-on experience in skimming, boarding, rendering, beading, dot and dab, and patch repairs. I’ve also worked with a plastering firm, although their current workload is limited, which has motivated me to seek additional opportunities to grow.

I hold a full driver’s license, have my own transport,(car) and possess a red CSCS card. Additionally, I have my own tools (excluding rendering tools) I live in Gillingham, Dorset, southwest SP8 I’m eager to continue learning from experienced professionals, improving my skills, and contributing positively to a hardworking team / solo plasterer while completing my NVQ.

I am more than happy to undertake a trial period to demonstrate my commitment, work ethic, and abilities.

I apply for plastering roles daily on multiple job sites (Indeed, etc.), even though I know I don’t yet have the experience they’re looking for. I’ve contacted every plastering firm and solo tradesperson near me, but most of the time, I don’t even get a reply, which can be disheartening. I’ve also reached out to major firms like Redrow, Barratt, and P4P, as well as visited every building site in my area to speak directly with site management in hopes of getting an opportunity but nobody wants a trainee or they're only dry lining.

I practice every day. My work is decent—not as good as someone who’s been doing it for years, but still, it’s coming along well obviously I want to learn from a true professional and get to a point where I don't need to be reminded of anything.

If anybody is interested in hiring a trainee plasterer/ labourer/ plasterers mate or know of someone or a firm who wants someone who is serious about becoming a fully qualified plasterer then. Please reply

290 mile round trip to mine.
(That'd be an early start.)

I think there are some closer to you on here.
Best of luck.

Nice post and I wish you luck.
Unfortunately for you most long-term tradesmen/small employers have themselves learnt that taking on and helping to train someone up is a complete waste of their time, because as soon as the said trainee thinks they're good enough they're off to do their own work and compete against those that trained them.
IMO you're best off looking for a large plastering or maybe building firm to settle in with for now.

Plasterers have to work there balls off to earn 200 quid
Most labourers nowadays want 100
And that’s just mixing up
Get into tape jointing mate probably easier to pick up and seems to be the way it’s going
