Like every where in the uk,some are 7 to 7 most are 8 to 5 because of noise, better off getting either price or a good day rate, I have turned down a lot of work so I think you can get a decent rate easy enough.Cheers is it common to get long hours down there or is it generally 8 - 5 days a weeks
Too many, we are trying to stop the northenersThanks. What sort of prices are about? Would still need longish hours to make it worth travelling. Does anyone travel long distsnce to work in london on here?

True, but when with a firm ,it looks odd when the spreads go and the rest stay.8-5 ? I start as early as I can and finish no later than 3. Plastering is the one trade you can't have a definitive finish time in my opinion

some jobs will not be started before 8, does the spread have his ten o'clock break, his one o'clock break and leave at three, you won't get away with it everywhere,if the plumber, brickies, carpenters work till five.
Haha its dull up north. 2.80m best u get up here
I've looked out the window and seen chippies asleep in their vans at 1pm. They don't show up on site before 8 either. I start 7 and leave 2.30, eat between trowels. Then when the chippies see me leaving they say, half a shift? Or " you spreads must be on some money"! I do my hits and go, end of.
Price workwe start at 8 have 2 hits and leave at 3 . if you can not earn your money by that time the job is no good to anyone.
Price work
I only or mostly do day works now due to my age and my health but that aside I work harder than most spreads I. Have met, outside work from7am ,try to get away by four nowadays, moving my money up from Monday .we only do price work. i work out the costings on a day rate plus materials.we have a minimum day rate plus what ever i can add to it. if i have any doubts about the work i add day/days to the costings. 90% of the work, we cover our wages plus a bonus.
8.30- 3.30, no breaks. Fook em

Depends what you want out of life 1 2 3 gauges, its all subjective.
yes I could earn a wage and not starve doing 1 hit a day, house wouldn't be full of nice things and wouldn't have the standard of living I have now.
3 sets a day and im sticking enough by to be no where near this job by the time im 50/55. 2 sets a day isn't going to pay for that I im not stumbling round on site like my old man when im a pensioner.
you are a site worker scottie you have to work hard to make a decent living, site work is for the young and the dumb. you will learn that what you need is less work and more thought!

Thought I was invincible in my 20's/30's, throwing on gear like a nutter, 80m2 on the 1st two hits and then an easier 3rd hit plus set up for morning (on my own).
nearly 50 now and my back is stiff, knee clicks like a rattle and my shoulder has so many problems that sometimes lifting a cup of tea is a struggle.
Think on :RpS_thumbup:
