Hi all,

New to plastering and still have an awful lot to learn so please be gentle lol

I had artex (not asbestos) on my bedroom ceilings. Property is post war system built house.
I have scraped all the artex off the ceiling and revealed a reasonably flat ceiling.
It has been coated with a limewash prior to applying the artex.

Question is what preparation do I need to do prior to skimming ? Can I just PVA it and skim as normal or do I need to do something else.
I ask as someone said its a pain to skim over limewash as nothing sticks to it ?

Also for the other ceilings is it best to leave the artex and skim over it ?

Help please.

you could try one of 3 things in my opinion
1 ... unibond first then pre grit (its easier to spread if primed) ,if that adheres well ,then your free to skim it
2.... overboard with 9.5mm plasterboard then skim
3... pull whole ceiling down and start from scratch by means of board and skim

as for the other ceiling with artex ,personally id overboard and skim if there is no cove.
if there is cove the go for option 1
let us know your outcome
good luck
