I am currently constructing a home in timber frame with Rendaboard to the exterior face and 200x50mm oak beams planted onto the face of the Rendaboard. We want to render between the oak beams to achieve the final finish. My question is should I be using a Moncoushe or lime system. I have conflicting advice from opposing subcontractors! We have previously used the "planted beam" finish before on brickwork but not on timber frame and Rendaboard. Any advice, pros and cons, would be very much appreciated

Welcome to the forum!

Timber frames will settle - even the infill between the oak structures...... You want to make sure that whatever render you use onto a renderboard (something like Knauf Aquapanel Exterior) has an initial modern flexible thin coat basecoat and mesh layer first. This will tie all of the boards together and stop any movement in the frame from creating cracks straight through a lime or monocouche render.

Usually, a modern thin coat finish cost will make for an even more flexible finish to a boarded render system, but Lime and Monocouche finishes can be applied to a basecoat and mesh layer...

Feel free to give me a shout, or drop me a mail, if you would like more assistance - I am the Knauf Boarded Render specialist in the UK - my details can be found on my profile (click my profile name - top left of this post - click view profile and you will then be able to search for my contact details from there)

Good Luck - I am sure you will get further advise and assistance from others soon as well!

Looks really nice Dan. I think I would like to go for the lime render NHL on the Rendaboard, what would be the specification to get a good quality job in your opinion?

Contact a lime centre specialist. They can spec your job inc your backing boards. Dont think they will advise a render board. More a lath type spec
