Hi guys, got a little homer to do tomorrow, in one of our rooms a large crack has developed between the in tersection of the wall and ceiling which has been caused by damp me thinks. to repair it i was thinkig of taping and jointing it, do you think this would be ok and whats the best all in one filler/finish to use- the surface is painted? any help would be much appreciated

1st time ive ever heard of cracks being caused by damp.. ???
internally at least anyway..

just a guess realy, there was damp in one corner of the room but the crack goes all the way along. any idea what it could be??

how old is the house if its only along the ceilng line then i doubt its anything to worry about
only built about 10 years ago, theres also cracks down one wall exactly 1200mm apart could this be that they havnt left any gap between the boards?? same with ceiling maybe, i was gonna scrim up and reskim said wall.would this be the best course of action??

could be a dodgy spread hasnt scrimed haha id just reskim it 4 hours jobs done an cleaned up rather than fillling and sanding but thats just me i hate sanding

would do but that would mean skimming the ceiling as well-to much work

you could skim the wall place the scrim along the ceiling line but not onto the ceiling this will give some support to where the crack is then painters mate the internal angle after u have skimmed the wall jobs a gud un

movement.
newish house, settlement, gone up in a month...
to be expected these days imo..
no big deal tho, id prolly just acrylic decor (painters mate, caulk, whatever) the ceiling crack twice (the stuff shrinks, go over it once, let it dry then do it again, the stuffs flexible anyhoo)..
as for the wall, it'll be the join of two boards, scrim it and skim it and like napper says, a run of scrim along the wall edge just touching the ceiling wont hurt at all...
as for 'there was damp in one corner of the room'.. in a ten year old house? bloody hell, newbuilds really are crap these days..
was it black and spotty? in which case its not 'damp' as in water ingress, its condensation.. ventilate the room..
and it it was 'damp' i.e. visible salts, in the top corner, its either gonna be a leaky gutter/downpipe, easy fix, or mortar snots bridging the cavity (not so easy) or possibly a leaky roof (dodgy verge/tiles/felt) in which case i'd expect a water mark..

ive got a couple of holes need filling you little buggers ay ay ay :-*

missus finger not big enuff anymore ey? thats what you get for not keeping it to special occasions init!

oi you ;D..shes got fat stumpy fingers just the way i like it up my s**t box thank you

ok point taken ;D........seriously though get on it .....its all out in the open know and out of twenty lads on the firm a quarter admit to trying and enjoying it .......one of them even calls his missus an ass bandit ;D
