hi guys... is there any major differences when d&d to a sandstone wall of an old traditional non cavity house than when doing it to a normal breeze block wall??? any tips / things to bare in mind or be mindful of?? thanks in advance for your help.
if theres any sings of damp get that rectified first, not sure about using gypsum products on sandstone tho im sure theres someone on here with experience of it
first you have to completely rule out damp..
solid stone walls are notoriously damp, and notoriously difficult to cure..
have you checked it for damp? if so how? is it plastered now?
only if you can rule out any possiblilty of damp coming through can you dab it..
as mentioned above 2 coats of sbr slurry, or better still tanking then render it is probably your best bet
for information.. any solid wall, unless its been completely waterproofed will have some damp, the older the wall and the worse the condition, usually increases the problem.. youre back into the world of damp proofing again platinum :
sorry missed the single skin bit :-[............ if you dab it you will create a vapour barrier that may permiate the final coat and not allow air to evenly flow around the room 8)
