Hi All - Help needed with choosing right render on front external wall

Hi

We are starting to renovate our house that we bought a few years ago. It is a mid-terraced house, built approx 1890. Main walls are of solid construction in brick rendered externally with pebble dash.

The pebble dash is in bad condition and we want to replace it with another render system.

Could anyone recommend the best system, does it need to be breathable?

Thanks in advance

I would have the render removed. re dash in Durite to match existing. If your property is in London Durite is a very common finish.

Thanks for the comment however I don’t really want to re dash as I don’t think it looks great. Any other options? Someone mentioned Lime to me today? Thanks

What do the neighbouring houses have?

You can do what you want, but many years a go, there was a trend for ‘stone cladding’ and look what happened there!

There is a mix of pebbledash and other finishes, we really don’t want pebbledash again…

I'm pretty sure that current building regs say that if you remove a certain percentage of that render you'll have to replace it with an insulated system, if the property doesn't already meet a certain thermal standard.

Yes /external & internal ....
How many re /renders & internal @ whole knock offs have never seen building control.

Make that 99.99per cent hack it off, it looks crap, do a nice k rend off white render, or a cheaper way, 6.1.1 plastering sand, cement, hydrated lime, sponge finish ,then either paint or leave as it is.
