Hello one and all, iv,e been lurkin in the forum for several days so thought I,d show my face, well at least in the form of text that is.
I,m dave I live down south in Hampshire, I,m not a fulltime plasterer but do jobbing work for people, but have been doing plastering off and on for a lot of years, turned 56 in November.
I ended up here sort of by accident when searching on the web for new plastering trowels as my existing ones are a bit long in the tooth now.
I just bought a refina s*p*r*lex and now deciding on which choice to make for a new laying on trowel. must have had my mt trowels for close to 30 years now so time for new things.
sorry for the long post

Tonnes of great advice here... bonding in finish has been my favourite of 2014

Stick around and you will soon be addicted :)

Oh yeah for filling in chases is that the one, a lady friend of mine will be showing me a couple of handy tits, oops sorry meant handy tips, come to think of it they are tips.
my typing goes a bit tits up sometimes and I make the odd boob:RpS_w00t:

I just read through the bonding in finish thread, would never have thought of that one, I got a very rough wall to do soon I,ll try that idea out, it,ll look even rougher when iv,e dealt with it:rolleyes:.

I tried the cream of tartar in multi finish idea today all my years in the building trade never come across that idea it works a treat and gave me plenty time for troweling up and even 2 cups of tea not cold tea either I need all the help I can get these days as it,s not as easy these days especially the ceilings, bottom line I,m just not as fast anymore.

gotta try the bonding in finish idea, pity did artex ceiling yesterday 22m2 but had no bonding, I,m sure I,ll get another chance to try it as there,s another artex bedroom ceiling looking very crap, can,t stand the stuff, never been interested in having a go at it, like covering it up though:RpS_laugh:

Good morning everyone, thought I,d stop by and say hello before I go out and do oil and oil fitler change on my almost 18 year old 954cc citreon ax, I call it my flintstone car:RpS_biggrin:, a few people have a laugh about it well it went through its mot last Saturday with not one single fault or advisory haha, the mot guys said it,s in great order, totally rust free bodywork wise and underneath which I already knew. luckily I,m capable with mechanical things and have always carried out most jobs on my cars myself , been ripped off by a few garages in the past, plus I like messing with cars anyway. chat soon adios.

I am a petrol head to say the least.. I love tinkering with cars :)

I became a home mechanic out of nessecity, couldn,t afford garage fees years ago all my old bangers used to be mechanically perfect even if they did rust away around my ears, and I certainly have had some bangers back in the 1970s when cars used to go very rusty haha, had an escort I opened the driver door one morning and one of the door hinges fell away from the bodywork, had a Cortina which I painted with dulux gloss paint hehe.

56 fair play dave have u any things to say to us younger bucks advice ect

yeah George, my advice would be to be retired in another part of the world by my age haha, well made my final choice of new laying on trowel, a nela premium with cork handle. it,ll be getting its first test run on a ceiling iv,e got to do for my partners ex husband would you believe, my partner passed away aged 48 September 2013. her ex husbands son popped round to see me and decided the kitchen ceiling needs sorting after part of it literally collapsed narrowly missing his head lol. oh my other bit of advice is get someone else to do ceilings at my age I need the money so have to plug away, seems everyone needs ceiling doing at the moment mind you I have got a leaking roof job to investigate when its warmer luckily I,m still agile for climbing my unicycle will be getting ridden again soon by me after an 8 month layoff.
wen im 56 ill be in the phillipines house built living the dream

just realised I answered your avice question with the question you asked in the first place, brain must be starting to fail:RpS_biggrin:

I did actually come across one tip that I would never have thought of, adding food colouring to your pva to make it easier to see when your applying it it works a treat and if you mix several different colours you can have a neopolitan affect on the surface hehe:rolleyes)

hello folks,
Well my new nela premium 14 inch laying on trowel has just arrived and have to say I really like the feel of it, wasn,t sure about the cork handle but I think it will make for a nice grippy handle even when wet, and its even got a plasterers 1 stop shop bit of writing on back of the blade haha but I bought it off ebay. I,ll post my opinion on it after iv,e given it its first run, I like it so much don,t think I can bear to even throw the pretty box it came in:RpS_thumbsup:
