I have only just joined here. Have any of you changed your working methods since being on here? I mean with new tools mentioned on here or tried new things like scouring etc? I have read a few threads and like the sound of the spatulas but I don't think I will ever change from just two coats and my marshalltown because there doesn't seem to be the need. Maybe I will lol

what you have too remember is some on here ,are only here to try to sell you things , its plastering forum and plastering is not hard to do if you know your trade , if you get a nice even flat finish you dont need any thing else but a good worn in trowel , i joined this forum to give advice and learn a few new tips and tricks but now , its just a piss take , shame but true .

For me anything that reduces the physical strain and doesn't compromise the quality of the standard of work has to be worth a go. I have suffered lower back problems for a few years now and this is aggravated by ceilings usually, I was reluctant to use any type of spat/speedskim as I felt nothing could beat a well worn in trowel.
I work on some fairly big jobs so I get to see the finish and hear if the decorators have had any issues. Used correctly, alternatives to a steel trowel have for me made the job easier and still leave a high quality finish. So yes , I guess I have changed my ways due to TPF

yeah i now charge more, im rougher than i used to be and i got **** loads of tools i cant be arsed to get out the van :RpS_thumbup:

but iv had a couple of good days out and made some funny friends :RpS_thumbsup:

I used to 2 coat ,now I use half a coat and finish in a pass and a half, I do 8 hits a day and still finish at two,

oli deck ceilings out, get it the right height , dont do big hits jobs a good un , theres no real strain

Yea I use to think I was good now I feel like a chancer , especially with the tools I've got from thread recommendations on here:confused:

wont be long before we are talking about , site lights , work books , render going off slow , :rolleyes)

I know bud I suffer from lower back also, I stretch for 8ft ceilings and walls, unless it a decent sized ceiling I never deck it out takes forever to set up then clambering over 90% of the time I would just do it on the hop up

Do you have any aliments to speak of with trying you best to make you life easier when stretching and bending is concerned?

i change into something more comfortable at the end of each day after my shower.

Got to blame something/somebody!?? :RpS_laugh:

**** being a foot and 4 inches off the ceiling , thats still a bit of a reach and stretching ur back backwards every time u put abit gear on . I was always taught u should be able to touch the ceiling from ur head with one hand ( little finger to thumb )

16 inches lol, yeah I know that's the right way just feeling I'm wasting time, got stilts but don't trust them..
