Good paint for stairs or stain?

Hello all,

I have a new stair case to paint. Made up of a mix of Pine and MDF.

Want to paint the treads but I can't for the life of me find a paint that is suitable.

I've found a black stain here:

I think this would look good with the pine stairs but maybe not the MDF?

If anyone has a recommendation I'd love to hear it.

I would never paint stairs.. it will always wear off ..

Stain it if you have to.....
