Hi guys... hacked a small wall off today ready for mono tomorrow, only to discover it wa a mesh mash of bricks and blocks !! Rendaided over the top and put a stipple on but the blockwork has started to grin through as I was leaving... am putting 15 beads ontop tomorrow and then mono.... if its grinned through the rendaid isit likely to grin through the mono or will the mesh and 15mm depth be enough to hide it ? First time iv used rendaid so am abit anxious !!

No sign of any damp atall on the wall the work is due to the client reversing Into the wall !

Be fine at 15mm

My experience is that mono peels off when you're trying to apply it if the rendaid hasn't had at least 48 hours to dry.
Last time I did it was a couple of summers ago on a mates house. Only 7m of mono but I threw my tools in the skip afterwards in a rage :ROFLMAO:
 
Oh s**t really? I figured it was next day especially in this heat ! Tbh rookie mistake i should have checked !! I'll swerve it till Friday to be sure thanks for the heads up !!

Will I need to damp it down then or isit it suppose to be bone dry when laying on the mono??

Another rookie mistake, you should have put the beads up first.
 
Really ? But if I had beaded then put rendaid with a stipple and then mono my overall depth for the mono would be under the specified 15mm after it was scraped surley? If mono can be laid on up 20-25mm think max surley rendaid then beading is the sensible way to go ?

Again I'm a rookie with rendaid so happy to be informed otherwise by lads that use it on a regular basis.....

Mate unfortunately there are a lot of clueless chancers on this forum. Firstly you have done it right Rendaid first and then beads otherwise as you considered you may have areas where you may scratch back to the Rendaid. Old substrates it is almost always key coat first then beads. We always used to use 10mm beads…you can dab them on with the Rendaid. By the time you have dabbed them you are looking at a 15mm coat so no need to use 15mm beads. Regarding drying time you are correct in this heat you can most likely go onto it next day. Just check that it is solid.

We always fit 15mm beads first then base coat with full mesh. This will bring the the top coat up to about 12mm saving material. We always add flakes to the top coat to finish same day.

Did it get worse towards the bottom of the wall? Maybe a pattern forming?
 
Spec is 15mm minimum thickness to avoid ghosting. Beads on, Rendaid with mesh then top coat. Rendaid itself is part of the spec to make up the 15 mm. If you going over block work you could wet fix the beads to make up the 12/15 mm and its still by the spec. If you had to work with a stop bead then what you did here wouldn't work as the Rendaid would show under the stop bead. Also good luck handballing 15mm with just top coat...
