This is a first for me i finished a job a week and a half ago and the customer said email her a invoice and she will send the cheque to me but yet i still havent recieved one >:( not saying the customer wont pay but what is the right way to go about it if i dont recieve my cheque any advice would be welcome many thanks :)

small claims court...but if youve got nothin concrete on paper u could be shafted anyway...
at the end of the day theres the old 'I only asked you if you could do the job, i didnt say i was gonna pay you..'
id be going round in person, none of this 'email me a quote' bollox...
if they dont answer the door start knockin the neighbors and explain u havent got paid and would they happen to know when they would be in...that way you might just embarrass em into payin you...long shot but better than p'ssin through the letterbox ;)

Just keep hasseling them they should pay you then. Why are they asking for an invoice are they a small buider or property developer? Your average joe public dont usually bother with invoices, always asked to be paid soon as the job is finished even if you got to hang around til 6 o'clock. What we always do is keep a few pieces of paper with our names and address on top and if an invoice is required we just jot down what they want no excuse not to pay then.

What is this 'cheque' you speak of? Seriously, always insist on payment at the end of a job....the customer should have no excuses unless there's a problem with the work. If that's the case then they should be upfront about it and not give you the old 'send me an invoice to give me time to think of a good reason not to pay you' flannel!  >:(

just call around and hand them the invoice ::) i usually get paid at the end of the day or the day after but if its for someone with their own business they will ask for an invoice and its usually pay by cheque.

Tee up payment before you finish or send them to the bank! You might feel awkwark but you've done the graft! If they want an invoice thats fine, send it to them once you have the cheque. If its a rubber cheque, plaster comes off as quick as it goes on if you have a hammer! Someone told me best way to get paid is leave a bit of scrim somewhere (skirting board level etc) and if they don't pay rip the full length off !

nice one peg! I'm pretty well covered in tattoos and iron work so i don't often get messed about! other than that, cultivate a 1000 mile stare!

o  :o  i was tryin to figure out what rhymes with 'mel'??...still, ive heard a shovel called a banjo before... :-?

my job im on at the minute, they keep dissapearin, bit unreliable, i keep feelin like i cant really start anything until i got paid for the last lost...so im just bein a pain in the arse...shouldnt have to feel like that but ive been f'ked over before so i dont take no chances these days, no matter how genuine the speil sounds, action speaks louder...
