Full re-render??

Hello, after some advice please.

My house is 26 years old the front upper storey of which is rendered. It has some cracking which we have repaired ourselves over the years but are now calling in the professionals. One company is talking about removing ALL of the old render another is talking of patching with mesh and rendering on top of the old so as not to damage the block work underneath. The existing render is sound and not coming away at all. Both quotes are very similar cost wise.

Which in your opinion is the best solution?

Many thanks in advance.

Fran

If the render is rock solid all over and not hollow then having it rendered over isn’t a problem but it looks like there isn’t much depth on the brick arches above the windows to accommodate a re render personally those cracks as well I would have it all hacked off and re done properly where they will bed mesh in anyway

I would paint the render with BDEC external paint, that'll solve your cracking problem. have look at their web page. I have used it in the past. it is twice the price of masonry paint but it will save you a lot expense.

Hack off and start again.
Going hollow in places and cracking across wall.
Why would you want to go over it and take a risk, if its the same cost?

I used there barn paint to go over your standard brown treated fence when I moved house brilliant stuff no primer needed went straight over it and still looks good 7 years later

Not being funny but only take a day to get that crap off , go for the full render and treat yourself to a nice modern monocouche facelift it looks dated as hell and is due let’s face it
