Floating plasterboard edge?

hi my closest ceiling joist to the wall is 100mm is it ok to 'float ' the board (12.5mm) that far? If not what's the normal maximum for an unsupported edge?

Personally no. Don't care for specs here. That will constantly crack.....plus I'm sure it's always supposed to be supported on the edge.

Throw some coving up after or throw up another support to screw into.

I'd just board it and let the board sail over unsupported or get some noggins in or simply screw a piece of timber to the joist and reduce the gap

100mm will be fine with 12.5mm boards... Just put them up and don't give it a 2nd thought...

Every plasterer in the country wouldn't give it a 2nd thought pal

You could always do the old screw on angle. Widely knoqn to fix and secure absolutely anything that accompanied with a great big wish that is

Expanding foam down the edge so it sticks to wall is how I fix wall and ceiling line cracks and wobbles. The low expansion foam is the best. All the way along from the back or drill a few holes to get a little in. Foam has packed out uneven boards where they don't sit on joists to. Sets in 2 hours so don't really hold job up for skim.
