I have a couple of Rhinos - a word of advice:

take care to check that there are no plaster snots/splats on the legs before you try to slide them shorter - they jam SOLID if you're not careful.

Here's another bit of advice.
Get yourself a can of PTFE spray and with the legs fully extended give them a good coating of it.

Believe it or not, using the old crate as a second step works.
