Hi I have been plastering for 20 years but I'm interested in going on a course to learn how to do external insulation it seems to be happening everywhere were I live Gwynedd area so does anyone know of any courses in north Wales or north west any help please:confused::confused::confused:

There are courses about on a few day basis and one day basis from manufacturers but the probability is you still wont be able to tackle a project unless you get on site with an experienced gang. I would do this and couple it with a course also then take it from there

There are courses at wthrby every week and there is loads of work going off in north wales.

Thing is training and nvq was a skill/knowledge gaining exercise that meant after it all the student was competent but that was when EWI was a specialist field now the new way of training due to all the push from the gov they want to upskill anyone working on site to do the nvq route into EWI, One of my old lads who now works on the housing schemes for different firms told me that a training provider turned up and put 40 lads nvq II through in one day in one site visit for a an outfit so they are site compliant (you need the nvqII to get on most sites now). I asked him surely its part of a longer process of visits/evidence checking etc but he claims they were seen once, photographed and signed off:RpS_scared: I cant say if I believe this but.....

I expect this sort thing to take place because we get pestered all the time to get lads put through the NVQ but I do not agree with it unless they have sat the test and done all the site visits. I did my EWI II ages ago and it took months, I sat two tests and was visited at least 7 times on sites and not just photographed but observed working for a period of time. but it seems the gov.are in a rush so the behaviour of the training providers may change after all the gov are chucking funding at the providers and they cant get enough men on the nvq quick enough for the GD to start

Hi we run courses in ewi have a look here External Insulation Training Services

but just to make it very clear i will explain how it works AGAIN

first of all most lads doing eifs/ewi dont need NVQ2 in external insulation at the moment as they are working on sites under the CERT rules
after october when the green deal comes into play it will be a requirement to be allowed on site to have your NVQ2
I have been in the game 37 years and i learnt how to do eifs in the 1980's in germany but i still decided to get my NVQ2 in external insulation just in case i need it in the future, some people look ahead and comply with the rules and regulations and some dont its a fact of life.
when i did my NVQ the assessment body were happy to look at all my detailed work history on photos and videos i had made, they took into account that i have gained approved applicator and trainer status for neumerous ewi/eifs manufacturers, they also took into account that i had my cscs card so had already completed 70% of the NVQ in health and safety and manual handling etc etc. i also showed the assessor some local work i had done... therefor i got my NVQ with the minimum of hassle.
people who need training from the word go have to prove themselves to the assessors and take the final tests, and they wont sail through it as theres a lot to take on board

Rendersystems is right the addition for nvq is essentially a gov requirement for GD work however.....

It has become statuary on some current schemes that are not on GD the schemes are other funded housing upgrade sites and the NVQ only operatives has come into play early we have two such sites local to us.

I will be providing some approved applicator training for ewi contractors for a manufacturer this year, mainly I will be running the courses from a depot but in some cases there will be on site training, if I can get you on up our way I will try but the courses are for contracting companies who are supply chain partners of the manufacturer not on a ring and book for the public basis at the moment.

so whats the dates for the road show steve.

if you are a fully competent EWI installer and have been for a number of years. Surely it doesnt matter if it takes an hour or a year to get your NVQ. There is only a problem when training providers pass people who clearly cant do the job.
I would be more than happy top get mine completed in a day. Done and dusted and ready for GD.

rates are very tight, you will need to move fast - if you work on site anyway plastering on price you will be fine but most lads I know are no better off on site than if they were skimming

One way to find out is just go on site and give it a go - where you based?
