'On Wednesday the 21st of September Sparks from the north-east went out to protest against the proposed 35% cut to their wages. Starting at 6am, the Sparks picketed the site entrance of the Tyne Tunnel getting more workers involved with their demonstration.

They were victorious in promoting their cause, and getting the bosses to pay them until 10.30, despite protesting on the gate.'

still wont work tho. feel so sorry for them. The country is far more goosed then they are cracking on. It will get worse before it ever gets better. Problem is that these times are great for the fat cats to reset wages and the new rates will become the norm. Any group of self employed people even if unionised will still be weaker than the likes of the teachers, police etc.

"Getting their bosses to pay them until 10.30"

So they are 'employed' then!

Surely that's a different kettle of fish?

My old man told me there was a builder strike in the early 70's and all trades right across the board were on strike.

hmm it can happen - self employed workers can join up with directly employed workers on site and make a difference.
