I went to look at a job this morning. It was a couple I've worked for previously. They've bought a new house. Moved up in the world. They showed me a box room they wanted skimming and then mentioned they wanted another two or three rooms plastering after the DAMP COMPANY had done their work. They showed me the rooms. Two were bedrooms with bays. Mildew on the outer walls in the corners. Downstairs there was another bay with mildew and then a rear room with mildew and penetrating damp where the hopper on a downspout had come away from the wall. It was costing them nine hundred quid to have the plaster hacked off and the walls injected with dryzone or equivalent. About twenty linear metres. Bedrooms included ffs. You couldn't make it up. What a racket. I felt like I had them on the stand when speaking to them. Did they mention a cream? Did they give you an expensive quote for the replastering? Did the say they'd leave a spec sheet for the plasterer? Did the survey say get specialist reports on damp and electrics? But they weren't having it. The bloke could see I was right with what I was telling him but his missus had been brainwashed. In fact she was quite rude. Jesus, you try and help people. When I got there they were having the corrugated asbestos roofing taken off the a shed in the garden

Dont let it bother you mate just walk out of their house laughing very loudly inbetween shouting "900 f**k**g quid" all the way to your van and dont forget to wind your window down pointing at them still laughing as you drive off. That should spark things off when they get inside (y)

Had one like that. Couple had been quoted an obscene amount of money for lots of damp work. Including vandexing 4ft up the wall in the bedroom, which was on the 3rd floor. When you could clearly see that the water stain was coming from the roof. All the customer kept talking about was rising damp. Fortunately she did listen. Ended up saving best part of 15k. Got the roof fixed, funnily enough the damp disappeared!

The quote was to vandexing 4ft up on every floor too. So I guess rising damp can jump too?
Not saying there isn't a place for these products. But they need to used properly. By people who know what they're doing. Otherwise Joe public getting a real s**t deal. Doesn't that also water down our skills/trade?

Sounds like you have seen what I come across regular, they don't call them "Salesmen/Surveyors" for nowt lol
Lost count of the people I have educated on incorrect specification of remedial treatments. Some how they get taken in and I have stopped telling them they have been ripped off as it falls on deaf ears.

£900 sounds cheap to me, I would have thought they would have been around the £1200 to £1500 mark.

Maybe they had a couple lined up in the area and did them in one day lol.

The industry gets a bad press from these jokers, I do it day in day out, I carry out damp and timber treatments and renovation work.

We aint all crooks but there are a few about.
