Dubbing-out

I am raking out old lime mortar from an internal limestone wall, the house has been render at a later date with a cement based mix so the the new mortar will be a cement mix, can someone recommended how I should prep the wall and any adds to the 3:1 mix.

Once the dubbin put is complete it will scratch coat with a 4:1 mix, at this point should I use PVA or SBR

Any advise will be most helpful.

I'd go as far to say it's almost criminal to render it

Putting a cement based render on there would be criminal, the wall needs to breathe.

Dampen down the stone work and then put a 3:1 hydraulic lime mix on, wait a week and then top with lime putty finish.
