Dot and dab over lime plaster

Heya new guy here, nice you meet you all! Was wondering, can I dot and dab over lime plaster? Attaching some photos, bottom half is where I had old tiles removed, the old adhesive is very sturdy so was also thinking of dabbing onto that as well.
Annnnd if its a bad idea, what could you suggest without removing the old plaster?
It will be a kitchen if that makes a difference
