Do I need to PVA tile backer board?

I have a small job where I have to use 6mm tile backer board.
Do I need to PVA it before skimming with MF?

Yes

You can just tile straight onto it.

But if you want to skim give it a few coats of pva or pre grit because there’ll be more suction.
