Just felt the need to share this with you all;
Went miles to a trade demo in Essex recently for a new fireproof board and claimed non-crack fireproof plaster skim. The new hole in the wall stoves are being shown in brochures without stone surrounds, perfectly smooth white walls, no cracks - doing stove installer firms heads in.
So - lot of fitter companies there with 10yr plus experienced spreads with them - currently the plaster/render is cracking or takes several days to do and costs them a fortune in visits and call backs
The boards are ok but his idea of a pre-formed false chimney breast was a non-starter and he knew jack-s**t about plastering - but admitted that. - then proved it;
He spread the plaster on with a tilers trowel & was using a plastic stop bead because the metal bead expands and cracks the plaster.
He got howled down for that, and didn't seem to get that the bead would melt.
We all had a go at putting it on the boards, I know the spreads knew their stuff, but the background suction varied in 50mm strips so it dried unevenly and nobody could get a finish on it - this was after the firms own-brand sealant - they claimed the usual PVA wouldn't work.
We all left, No Sale !!
