I usually make sure the walls are dust free and damped down before dabbing.
A fellow plasterer always puts weak pva on.
What do you do?

give it a good soak so it doesnt suck the water out of the dab. only use pva if the builder wants me to or if ive got a tub watered down already. good thing about pvaing it is if you dont get finished in one day you havent got to do it all again tomorrow like when you dampen the wals

never use pva as this creates a slippery surface and the dabs wont adhere correctly... water water water just make sure its damp not flowing
