Coloured Clay Plaster Job...

On this job we uncovered all the beams cleaned them up and applied an oil to bring the colour back out, all the walls in the house had various artex patterns which had to be scraped back and a sanded primer applied as a mechanical key for the clay.
All the corners had to be cut back and a 7 ounce burlap applied to strenghten and round the corners.
The client wanted a slightly harder finish on this project so instead of a casien type binder we added a lime puttyto the clay (about 10% in each mix) which when finished and compressed it carrried on to carbonate and give a smooth hard finish.

Was it the full room, ceilin too? How long did it take to complete? you should have took before and after pics, the beams came up well? Where they a mess?

Hi Bud yes it was the whole house ceiling and walls, took about a month with prep work sanded primer and two coats of clay and i do have some before and after pics i'll put some up later. The beams weren't too bad as they had hardboard covering them lol they were mainly covered in limewash, it was an old Tudor cottage about 400 years old i believe.

Burlap is a Jute woven fabric similar to Jute skrim but a lot tighter it makes a really strong rounded corner when material is pushed into it but does take time to form the corner as apposed to an angle bead.

That looks great Paul!!

Love the style of that room......

Hi Richard yes the owners do it all themselves i'm just starting their next property the whole back of the conservatory opens up and the limestone floor goes from inside all the same level out into the garden...nice work :RpS_thumbup:
