Thats why I posted it on the General Trade Discussions, for everything other than plastering !!! Im sure alot of people on here have friends or family in the cces industry.

It's more to let everyone see that the construction industry is really cracking down on getting the industry upskilled and onto skilled CSCS cards and a lot of funding is available to help workers who have been doing the jobs for years but just dont have the papers to prove this.

So how do you assess a civil engineer? Do you turn up at the roadworks on the M4, and take photos of a bloody great flyover for his portfolio? Surely civil engineers would already have HNC/HND/Degrees etc.
Any where you think you can make a quick buck, eh!

Nvq for digging holes ??

And lazing around smoking ??

And looking old and grumpy ??

And running over my cables ??

Just groundworks I reckon he's referring to..

Laying curbs, setting levels oh and leaning on spades ;)

Yeah Tony , you'd know all about that eh !!!
We are given contracts from the awarding bodies that we need to fulfil and i take it none of you actually read the link i posted which states NO not all civils have an nvq. No wonder construction industry gets a bad name when ppl like you lot cant even agree that all industries should be up to standards.

Here's my take on the whole CSCS, NVQ, send out an assessor to take a few photos and there's your certificate b*ll***s.
It's a moneymaking racket. Companies like yours, relieve tradesmen that don't have these cards, out of their hard earned wages, for very little input from yourselves. Charging them probably a minimum of £500 for a couple of site visits, and the compilation of a 'portfolio of evidence' that states they can do their job, that they have probably been doing for decades quite competently. Now what is that on your part? Maybe 4-6 hours of one of your operatives time. Great value for money. No doubt the government will be getting a percentage of your fee. Your 'assessors' are probably either straight out of college and have little or no site experience, or failed tradesmen themselves, that couldn't make a living out in the real world so found a cosy little number pretending to be an authority on whatever discipline/s they cover. You say you are given contracts that you need to fulfill? Sounds like sales targets to me. Thats probably why you are desperately starting threads for this, that, and the other trades, apprentices and the like. You're here for one reason, and one reason only..........£££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

Actually Tony our fee is £350 an nvq and it is covered by government funding and citb.

Our assessors are all tradesman and all hold their A1 TAQA award. Our assessors actually support and assess workers working towards their nvq with lots of input with the worker.

Sounds like you have had a bad experience and now judging all providers like that. Youve never dealt with us so its wrong to say its fake. We have two ofsted grade 1 training academies and are the main training provider for the likes of British Gas, VolkerLaser and Mitie so i think that proves how dedicated we are to helping workers achieve their nvq. But your entitled to your opinion and its good to hear ppls thoughts.

I agree, NVQ,s are a load of bollox, everyone passes them for little knowledge.. take some pics ( anyones will do ) fill some forms in and there you go sir.. thats why the constructions industries fuked.. nothing to do with the attitudes on here...

A few years ago, I got a call from a plastering contractor that I used to do taping and coving for. He wanted me to give up a few hours to show his blokes how to do coving, so that when the assessor came around, the boys could be able to hold up a piece of coving to a wall and have their photo taken as evidence that they could cove.
I also contacted the college nearest to me (only 40 miles away) that did the OSAT for Drylining, to be told that the bloke that did the assessing had retired and they didn't know when they would be getting a new assessor .
Good eh!

Thought you did it at college Ryan ? they should sort it for you.. these assesments are a joke onsite.. fuk me, wife could get one..

only funding for 17 to 19 year olds ryan or maybe up to 24 but over your on your own, otherwise your employer has to pay half course fees, and no employer gonna take anyone if they have to pay.

Hi Ryan, we dont have funding for Fibrous plastering its just a diploma nvq 2 in solid plastering we have funding for.

Your entitled to your opinion Ryan. Yes your pics of your work were very good, suprised actually you dont already have the qualification your after!!!!

Only reason Geason is on the forum is to help employers and / or s/e losc, having a workforce with the right skills and qualifications is both a requirement under the National Minimum Standards and essential for a successful business. Our programs are designed to help workers develop the knowledge and skills required and to give them nationally recognised qualifications.

Because it's classed as specialist work, there isn't alot of call for fibrous on new build houses, they just throw up some gyproc coving if needs be.
