Thinking of tiling over laminate floor its 12mm thick waterproof. On solid floor ..If I put ply down I've got to do same in another room. Cheers

Take it up. Check the existing floor for flatness...I usually use a 4m milled straight edge, engineers blue and a set of feeler gauges. Anything over 3 - 4 thousands part of an inch is too much as it may cause a trip hazard after you’ve layed your tiles.

I must be reading this wrong ceramic tiles on laminate floating floor?
The floor is solid underneath? Concrete?
Then just lay on that. Use self levelling if needed and prime.
If floorboards then ply out and prime.
Why if plying out does it mean you have to do other room? Just use 12mm ply. Same thickness as laminate you removed.
 
I think you need to use Hardie backer board now don’t know if you can still use no more ply..,,,... on the last regs said no plywood..,,.as there is no guarantee with it anymore
