Can Lime Putty be used as a filler

I was wondering if lime putty can be used as a filler for small cracks and holes in some older lime plaster I am trying to preserve?

There are some hairline cracks but also some larger cracks and "craters" in the wall. I would say 4 to 6mm in ceiling and 10mm deep / 20mm diameter tapered holes. Any suggestions? Could I add something to the putty?
