Decided to rip out the skirting after skim was planning to keep it but it looked naff once the room looking new, cracked some plaster and revealed a decent gap behind, going for taller skirting so do I need to fill it out with bonding or..?

It is going to need bonding, then fit skirting and use Easyfill 60. You could replace with higher skirting to reduce the amount of filling and sanding.
Learn from you mistakes, think the job through before plastering next time.

Just use huge boobs of silicone making sure to not get any the room side of the skirting
spell check changed blobs to boobs
then easy fill anything that’s left showing of damaged plaster

Various ways of sorting this.

Offer skirting up and run pencil line round.

Make good to plaster if above line using filler etc.

Stick skirts on with foam if there’s enough contact points to keep it vertical, else fix a few wooden/plastic packers then foam. Use instastik or Screwfix sticky foam that doesn’t expand too much. Spray wall with water first.

That’s what I would do. Had to remove some skirting a few months back that I’d stuck on with foam...took some shifting!

Other option is to use foam :coffe:
