Looking for some advice on plaster boarding a ceiling. What's the easiest way to do this? Across the beams, same direction as beams or just whatever way works using less cuts? thanks
Dint think it would take long, yeah thanks for the advice however some people like to try to do jobs there self like plastering and sometimes require information to asset them, hence what I thought this forum was all about. If I was getting a plastering in I would not be asking for advice would I? why is it some tradesmen don't like to help others out? Are you scared of competition? If you are as good as you think you are you will always have plenty of work regardless of compitition or given advice. Perhaps you lose work not because of better or cheaper quotes but because of your attude? Only a thoughtDon't worry - your plasterer will advise you:RpS_thumbup:
Sorry dint realise that's how this forum worked. Do I need to detail the job in hand before asking for help?. My mistake I have asked questions before when I first joined the forum and stated the work on there - not having a dig just pains me when people ask for help and get cocky replys. If proper spreads don't like helping diy'ers out then the forum should be changed to say it's only for full time plasters. Thanks to the helpful people on here it's really appreciated. And you are entitled to your thoughts mister........I must have missed you properly introducing yourself and outlining your background/plans for this work as I thought you had just came on here asking about boarding/beading without the courtesy of an introduction.......just a thought:RpS_thumbup:
Gotta agree with the bloke. This site is becoming very unwelcoming to newcomers/diyers.This forum is turning into a pack of people who talk about whatever they want and exclude newcomers. Perhaps the DIY section needed asap. If no one posts i assume the forum will die and then then we all suffer.
Bubbles you're becoming a bit of a knob mate he's a diyer and you don't have to answer every thread that starts like this with ask the plasterer it's not the first time is it, I've got gripes and that's with people who want to go on a course and take the piss I don't take it out on Joe bloggs doing renovations personally I think it's disgusting and you're a disgrace to the forum and if I had it my way I'd have you bannedSorry FireOne, I will hold my hands up & say I was wrong. I was just checking out the new posts last night and seen your name on two threads asking what are (to a plasterer) very basic questions. I was away from my beloved laptop last week & missed your introduction, so - armed with the limited info I had before me last night - I wrongly made the assumption that you were seeking info without any introduction, something that personally p*sses me off. Please accept my apologies:RpS_blushing:
I understand your frustration and I'm sure most spreads do get annoyed with people who do these courses you see advertised and then ask for information on here then nick your work, I can assure I'm not here for that reason. Yeah I agree they are basic questions and I kinda know the answers already but just wanted a simple answer to confirm my thoughts, hence the posts. a simple conformation but my mind at rest as I cant afford to make mistakes. To clear things up this sums my situation up, I have a job well 2 jobs ( in my eyes the best job in the world lol) I'm not trying to become a plaster or steal anybody's work. I used to labour for a friend a long time ago and I learned how to skim through this.My sisters now ex fella as f****d off and left my sister with a house that she can not afford and can't sell because it needs a lot of work, mainly updating, re plastering ect. After all the bills mortgage, gas credit cards bills he ran up she is left with £40 yes £40 to feed on for the month. As you professional spreads demand footballers pay packets this is never going to be an option to get someone in so I'm left to do it. I'm able to get a good finish but I'm slow, I will only do 1 wall at a time. As money is tight I cannot afford to make mistakes and have to re do work and this is the reason I'm asking basic questions just to double check and confirm before ball sing it up. As I'm having to pay for materials myselfI thank every one for there help so far.Sorry FireOne, I will hold my hands up & say I was wrong. u were doing alright till this post. uv made urself look a right nob on the money part. spreads are one of the worst paid trades on site. and definatly in the top one or 2 hardest trades. come and spend a week with one of the guys on here and let us no how much ud want to do it full time.i sypathise with ur sisters situation tho, it happened to me, not quite £40 a month for food, but bloody hard work. although on my wage, i just had to do an extra day a month and i was eating caviar again
