Best way to build up s/c render thickness?

Hi I’m patch rendering a bathroom wall with sand and cement render to level with existing render.

I’ve put on the first scratch coat of around 15mm at 4:1 but there is still around 15-20mm to level it. Is the best course of action to build this up in the second coat (5:1)?

Or should I split this up into another couple of coats? Is 3 coats total ok?

It’s ok 3 coats - always weaker mix each coat so good job you started at 4:1

I’m probably a fool but I like to do everything I can myself, I enjoy the learning curve. Plus it’s being tiled so finish doesn’t need to be perfect.

Once dried, pva and 4:1 up to 12/15mm and leave a scratch.
