Thin coat system over old tyrolene, HP12 meshed followed by TC1.5 would you guys use 8mm or 10mm beads ?

love this place you learn loads of stuff, @clivo just a question what's the benefits of going over old render with thin coat, as apposed to hacking it off and starting from scratch?

There's no need to take it off if it's stable , the sealer and base coat will adhere to it and the mesh adds strength, then the thin coat gives a nice maintainance free finish, so no benefit in hacking off, unless you love to make hard work for yourself [emoji106]

I would use hpx or printer or maite, I don't think hp12 is modified enough to go on so thin. You may get cracking.

If the old is solid and clean then going over the top is a safe bet. The modern render systems will stick well and be reinforced thoughout. Being thin coat hardy any weight as well.

Taking it off to brick may sound good but it brings it's own problems. Damage to the substrate, adhesion, cracking.
