I have just been reading the thread about pricing and how some had made a good earner out of a days work.

I was just wondering how many of you have had the total opposite and lost money.

I once took a job on and ended up working for £50 a day for 2 weeks. I wasnt very happy but I stayed commited and made sure I left a good job.

Not that bad but I have miss priced. One a said go with someone else the other I did it like you say and just left a good job.

I think we've all done it at some point.

I always try & price it so if it goes over a day or so I still make money.
But most jobs you should know how long it's gonna take.

But £50 a day for 2 weeks!
So you priced the job at £500 & it took you 10 days?
Did you know at the time how long it would take you?
And how did you come up with the price?

Thats the thing, foolishly I took a job on that someone else had priced.

I had a quick look but the further I got into the job the more I realised I had made a mistake.

It was the materials that cost me, I think the fella just guessed it.

It was my first year of working on my own so I just wanted the work and build up a good reputation.

I learnt my lesson and have never made the same mistake!!

Have done similar and probably ended up working for about £60 odd quid a day when first started out cos i didnt take into account all overheads, really pissed me off. I have got a good reputation now and havnt had to advertise for the last 2 years, which helps with the profit on jobs.
